If you have been through some of my posts, you’ve noticed I have 2 kids.
Funny story: whenever Christmas, easter, birthday or any other gift-related holiday is coming up I get a call from my mother who asks about what to give to my kids. And, actually, so do many of my relatives. Turns out, if you care about kids, it is hard to find something awesome to give.
I grew up around the millennium. Back then CDs, tapes and Windows ME were omnipresent. If I wanted new music I had to drive to a shop and get it. If I wanted to build a website, I had the choice to either learn HTML or use Dreamweaver.
Today, everything is so much easier. SaaS products make our lives easier. Spotify gives me music on the go. WordPress … love it.
But it’s getting increasingly harder to keep track of all your subscriptions. Especially since trials are everywhere. The other day I figured I paid for a service I did not use because I forgot about the trial.
So this might be a Deja Vu. A couple of weeks ago I talked to you about an uber for shop assistants. The idea behind it was: get somebody to help you if you have questions.
Last weekend, after I spent some time with my cousin who works in a large furniture shop, I came to the conclusion that I was thinking too complicated. Yes, being able to call somebody is very relevant. But very often you just need an interaction. And this, as quickly as possible.
We live in an on-demand world. Everything we do needs to fit our schedule. This is the main reason why messaging/email became so popular – because we can control when and where we want to reply.
The “Uber for X” model became so popular, there is Uber for pizza, Uber for cleaning, even Uber for bodyguards.
One of the situations I really do need an Uber, I barely find one on the marked: shop assistants!
Let me start by saying that I love my kids! Kids need our love and constant attention. But the world still keeps spinning. Things come up you need to take care of. That doesn’t always get along. My wife and I were often wondered what other parents do when a sudden call or a meeting which cannot be postponed comes in. For many people, the solution is quite simple: grandparents!
This business idea is not quite future proof. But it’s something which bothers me for quite some time now.
Our family is multilingual. My kids grow up speaking English, Russian and German. Different languages on different days of the week (long story for another time).
We buy DVDs once in a while, at home or abroad, mostly kids movies, Disney, DreamWorks, this kind of style.
I was born and grew up in Austria. English is a language we learn quite early in school. But quite late we start mastering it. Just before I graduated from school I started watching movies in English. And you know what? They are sooo(!) much better than the German versions.
Yet, 99% of all movie theatres in Austria show national versions. And I bet, this is no different in many other countries.

I love Evernote. I have been using it for years. Easy to use, and in many cases replaces my brain. There might have been countless situations where I just looked something up in Evernote instead of actually remembering. 🙂
