I love Evernote. I have been using it for years. Easy to use, and in many cases replaces my brain. There might have been countless situations where I just looked something up in Evernote instead of actually remembering. 🙂

But … I have been wondering why there is no easy home server solution. As Evernote charges a monthly fee to get more than the basics, a home server software could fill a market need.
Many people have NAS nowadays. Putting a software on these things might just work out for a great niche!

Other thoughts: why not actually using Dropbox for that?
Dropbox is a great service. No traffic limitations, wickedly fast file transfer and a huge community!
By using an app as a host you can basically use Dropbox as a file system and just display everything in the app like Evernote would!
You can charge 5-10€ for the app and can build a great list for special add-ons!

On a second thought: I think those count as 2 ideas 🙂

Does anybody have any comments on this one? Does this already exist?
Where are the limitations from a technical point of view?
